Hiking Tegernseer Huette

Last Sunday we went to Tegernsee to go hiking up the Tegernseer hut, which is about 1650 m above sea level .
Unfortunately a million other people had the same idea. The weather was wonderful and the hiking trail that has been recommended to me is really beautiful. It leads along a little river with lots of waterfalls in between. The last 40 minutes were very exhausting because it’s extremely steep. Due to the weather the place was absolutely packed with people and there was no chance getting a table on the terrace facing the Alps.

Lots of waterfalls on our way up to "Tegernseer Hütte"

We found a place on the rocks on one side of the hut. While Ingrid was getting something to drink I made my self comfortable. Two ladies that came up from the other route (the more difficult side) joined me and we had a nice chat also recommending various hiking trails to each other in Bavaria.

After a while I looked up behind me and recognized that there was a very steep rock about 30 to 40 meters high with loads of people climbing up there. My first thought was that it might not be such a good idea sitting directly on the bottom of that rock but then I was sure that they would not let people sit here if it would be dangerous because there were even tables standing there.

When Ingrid came with the drinks and some food I decided to go in front to the terrace to shoot some photographs of that gorgeous view. I just returned to our table when somebody was screaming from above that stones where falling down.

Everything went so fast. The two ladies I was talking to both got hit very badly by the rocks. I looked at Ingrid to see if anything has happened to her but thank god she was o.k. Exactly on the place where I was sitting a few seconds before was also a rock. If I would not have left a few seconds before I might have been hit as well. The two ladies where bleeding very badly and there was blood all over the place. I suppose that one had her nose broken. They helped the two into the hut and laid them on the floor. Later a doctor came with the helicopter and they were flown to the hospital. I still hope that nothing really serious has happened and that they get well soon. After that shock we decided to walk back what we did. On our way back I got a bit sad thinking about the two ladies. I really felt very sorry.
When we got back to the car we saw that there was a big traffic jam on the way back to Munich so we decided to have dinner on the terrace of a nice restaurant that was on the way. When we drove back later there was still lots of traffic but finally we made it back home. Except that awful accident it had been a wonderful day for us and I fell in to my bed and had a very good sleep.
View from the terrace to the alps. Just an incredible view.
