The philosopher and poet Friedrich Nietzsche visited the Engadine  for the first time at the beginning of July 1881. Thereafter he spent every summer from 1883 to 1888 in Sils. He would be seen sitting on this stone on the shore of Lake Silvaplana, deep in thought. Here, among other things, he came up with the idea of eternal recurrence - the key concept of his major poetic work, "Thus spoke Zarathustra".

Eibsee Grainau

 Today we went  for a little hiking tour to Grainau near Garmisch-Partenkirchen and walked around this wonderful lake called Eibsee at the foot of Germany´s highest mountain the Zugspitze.

Later we had a nice lunch  at the Eibsee Hotel ...

....and some ice cream!

On our way back to Munich we stopped at the Starnberger See for a swim at the Lido near Seeshaupt.

French Riviera May 2012

Since last Sunday I am back in France. Here are some Impressions from the last few days. I will comment them later.

Darmstadt April 2012 Places To Go

Here is a list of recommendations of restaurants and other food places if you are visiting Darmstadt.

One of the best places to have lunch or an early dinner is without a question the Premier Cru in the pedestrian zone of down town Darmstadt.

The boss Dino and his assistant Alexander are providing the guests with excellent food and a nonchalant service.

Before each order they serve you an ameuse geule.

If you fancy Thai cuisine then Ban Thai is the place to go in Darmstadt. Located just a 5 minute walk from Premier Cru. Very friendly service and wonderful food. The quantities they serve are really big so I suggest to order one meal for two.

Want to try out Persian food? Well, then you must visit Shiraz. Especially the lunch buffet gives you an idea what Persian food is about. And the price € 7,90 is a real good bargain. Service is also very warm and friendly.

 Are you planning a dinner party? You should not miss Il Molina . They have several shops in Darmstadt and one of them is right down town. They sell excellent wines and other fancy foods. Mainly from Italy and Spain but you can also get ingredients for Asian food.
